D€adly Fl00ds Devastate Nepal –Tibet Border As Villages Are Swept Away And Homes Collapse
🚨 Catastrophic flash floods have struck the Himalayan border region between Nepal and China’s Tibet, sweeping away homes, roads, bridges and entire settlements, with authorities reporting a rapidly rising d€ath toll and hundreds of people still missing.
The disaster hit communities along the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, near the border with Tibet. Dramatic footage from the affected areas shows floodwaters surging through communities, d€stroying buildings and carrying away vehicles and infrastructure.
According to the latest reports, at least some large numbers of people have been confirmed d€ad in Nepal and few in China — while hundreds remain missing. Rescue operations are continuing, although d€stroyed roads, bridges and dang€rously high water levels are making access to some areas extremely difficult.
Authorities in Nepal and China are responding to the di$aster, while f€ars remain that the casualty figure could rise as rescuers reach more affected communities. In China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, the Gyirong border area was also severely affected, with roads, communication links and other infrastructure damaged.
The exact cause of the disaster is still being investigated. Experts have suggested that a glacier collapse or avalanche may have triggered the sudden surge of water, while Nepali officials have also pointed to a magnitude 4.4 earthquake recorded in the region shortly before the flooding.
The disaster has also affected foreign nationals travelling in the region, with citizens from India, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and other countries among those reported missing or affected.
Nepal lies between China to the north and India to the south, east and west, making the Himalayan region an important cross-border area. The Bhotekoshi River originates in Tibet before flowing through Nepal and eventually contributing to the river system that continues into India.
Rescue teams remain on the ground as authorities continue searching for survivors and assessing the full extent of the destruction.
