AmBreakfast Note
FBM KLCI rose 0.88% to close at 1,713.20. We maintained the support level at 1,690 and the resistance level at 1,800. Trading volume decreased to 2.85bil (3.51bil previously), while trading value was RM3.26bil (RM3.80bil previously). Market breadth turned positive (572 gainers vs 511 losers). Sectors were closed mostly positive led by gains in Industrial (+1.42%), Telecommunication (+0.94%) and Technology (+0.92%) while partially offset by declines in Energy (-0,21%), Consumer (-0.16%) and marginal dip in REITs (-0.07%)
Asian equities closed higher, led by the Kosdaq, Kospi, and Nikkei 225, as sentiment improved following overnight Wall Street gains and easing concerns over surging oil prices. Regional markets were further driven by tight supply dynamics lifting the memory chip sector, alongside Beijing setting its lowest economic growth target on record amid persistent deflation and trade tensions. In a notably sharp single-market move, the Kospi surged 9.6% to clock its best session since 2008 after trading was briefly halted to absorb a reversal of leveraged retail selling. European equities closed all lower, led by DAX, FTSE MIB, and CAC 40, as the intensifying U.S. and Israel war on Iran dominated broader market sentiment. Surging oil prices and uncertainty surrounding the conflict's duration weighed heavily on equities, overshadowing strong fiscal year revenue growth from German defence contractor Renk.
U.S. markets stocks finished all lower, led by the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite, as escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran drove a spike in oil prices. The energy surge, marked by West Texas Intermediate crude settling at its highest level since 2024 due to stalled traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
